Washington DC: The Capital Of America

Medigap or Medicare Supplement, is Medicare Supplement Insurance that helps fill “gaps” in Original Medicare and is sold by private Insurance Companies.

These Policies are Standardized by the US Government.

Most people on Medicare also obtain some sort of supplemental plan like a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy to help pay for Medicare Co-Pays.

For instance, Medicare only pays for 80% of the Medicare Approved Amount for most doctor services, outpatient therapy and durable medical equipment, while you typically pay 20%.

A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy, can help pay your portion of such remaining health care costs, like such co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles.

Senate Bill 42 requires that insurance carriers who offer Medicare supplements to people age 65 and older, must also offer the same policies to people under 65. However, premiums for people under 65 are often much higher than for people age 65 and older. This is because people under 65 have health conditions that qualified them for Medicare. This often causes higher loss ratios for the carrier, and they must raise rates to stay ahead.
