Medicare Supplement Plans in Minnesota – Basic Benefits

Medicare supplements in Minnesota all cover a set of basic benefits. These benefits include the coinsurance for Part A and Part B, 3 pints of blood per year and some hospice and home health services. It also includes 100 days in a Skilled Nursing Facility, 50% of costs for outpatient mental healthcare, and 80% coverage for any medical expenses you may incur for emergency medical care in a foreign country.

There are some state-mandated benefits or other things as well, like flu shots and immunizations, various screenings for cancer and diabetes-related equipment.

Riders can be added to the Minnesota Basic Plan too. for instance if you want a rider that covers the Part A hospital deductible, you can generally purchase that at an additional charge.

Any beneficiary enrolling in Medigap can rest assured that these minimum benefits are included no matter which Medigap plan you purchase and no matter which insurance company you buy that plan from.

Extended Basic Plan for Medigap in Minnesota

The Minnesota Extended Basic plan includes all the same benefits of the Basic Plan with some additional benefits added. People who want their Part A hospital and Part B outpatient deductibles covered may want to consider the Extended Plan. Prices vary among carriers so working with an independent insurance agent who specializes in Medigap products is an easy way to compare prices.

No Medicare Excess Charges in Minnesota

Medicare excess charges occur when a Medicare provider does not accept Medicare’s assigned rates. They can charge you an extra 15% in some states. However, in Minnesota, state law prohibits doctors from charging excess charges. This means you don’t have to worry about any excess charges from providers in your state.
