Frequently ASked Questions

What is medicare?

– Medicare is the US government health insurance program created in 1965 and is called Original Medicare. It is made up of:

  • Part A, which covers in patient care in a hospital, skilled nursing facility care, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility (not custodial or long-term care) hospice care and home health care.

  • Part B, which is medical insurance and generally covers preventive care, doctor visits, lab test, durable medical equipment, supplies and more.

  • Part A and Part B come with deductible amounts, coinsurance and or copayments for most services. (Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) can help fill in these costs)

What is Medigap Insurance?

– Another name for Medicare Supplement Insurance.

Why Do I need Medicare Supplement Insurance?

  • Original Medicare will help cover medical expenses but does not pay all costs.
  • Many people on original Medicare also buy a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan to help with Medicare Approved Amounts.
  • For instance, Medicare only pays for 80% of the Medicare Approved Amount for most doctor services, outpatient therapy and durable medical equipment, while you typically pay 20%.
  • A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy, can help pay your portion of such remaining health care costs, like such co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles.

  • Anyone at least age 65 (unless you qualify by disability)

What is Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B?

  • When you qualify for Medicare, you first enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B
  • Medicare Part A generally helps pay your costs as a hospital inpatient.
  • Medicare Part B may help pay for doctor visits, preventive services, lab test, medical equipment, supplies and more

Why would I need a supplement to Medicare if I already have Medicare?

  • Medicare Supplement plans can help cover the costs of Medicare related expenses that are not covered by Medicare alone.
  • For example, a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan can help to cover a charge that is not fully covered by Medicare.
  • These charges are sometimes referred to as co-pays and/or co-insurance.

How Much Does a Medicare Supplement Policy Cost?

On average, the plans may range between $100 – $150 a month, give or take, depending on Age, Location and in some cases Medical History.

  • We provide access to other insurance products such as Whole Life Insurance, Dental, Vision and Drug plans

  • Sometimes, people at this stage of life, also consider a whole life policy as it can be used for your loved ones regarding your Final Expenses, or other expenses they may have, and will not term out due to your age.

What is Medicare Part C?

– Medicare Part C (also sometimes called Medicare Advantage) is a replacement for Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. The US government sets rules and guidelines, but private insurance companies sell and administer the plans.

– Medicare Advantage plans set the amounts they charge for premiums, deductibles and services. The Medicare Advantage Plan (rather than Medicare) decides how much you pay for the covered services you receive.

– Also, each Medicare Advantage Plan can charge different out of pocket costs. They can also have different rules for how you get services like;

  • Whether you need a referral to see a specialist
  • They can limit your choice of doctors, facilities or suppliers that belong to the plan for non-emergency or non-urgent care.
  • Medicare Advantage plans try to prevent the misuse or overuse of health care through various means. This might include prior authorization for hospital stays, home health care, medical equipment, and certain complicated procedures.
  • These rules can change each year.
